Wendy Nieper vocal-coaches Michael Caine
The Film "Is Anybody There" starring Michael Caine has just been released in which Wendy was not only vocal coach to Mr Caine but can be heard playing the piano in one of the scenes. Mr Caine played the role of a retired Magician who had recently moved into an old peoples home, though run down with life he would still have occasional moments where he'd entertain once again. For one song Mr Caine was to both sing and play at the piano.
Wendy was asked to play the piano for a pre recorded track for Mr Caine to mime to. However at 7am on the morning of the shoot it was discovered that the piano in the elderly home was totally un-playable (partially dismantled inside). So in one hour the amazing crew somehow managed to find another piano and a tuner. When she then heard the new piano being expertly tuned, she insisted that the tuner should do a bad job in the top register to make the whole thing more authentically out of tune. (After all, when do pianos in old people homes ever get tuned?) Slightly terrified, having only ever played for Christmas parties before, Wendy was given one chance to get the recording right because everything was running late, so here in this film you can hear her debut recording as a pianist.
